Resmushit is again throwing http errors and not optimizing, which also leaves images appearing as a generic grey box in the media library and users believing that they have not successfully uploaded their image (so they upload it again and again). I assume there is again a problem with a server somewhere.

Maybe it would be good to write a little error handling into the plugin so that if the server request times out, the plugin fails to optimize a little more gracefully.

Same here, hanging the image upload process even though the images got uploaded already.

Same problem for me – started happening this afternoon

Optimize does currently not work here either.
If I upload a picture, it takes very long, then some timeout triggers and the picture shows normally but is not optimized. If I trigger the optimize manually (in the media library list view), after a timeout the message “Reduced by 0 (0 saved)” gets displayed and after a refresh the image shows as unoptimized (“Optimize”-button) again.

Yes, some error handling would be very great. I mean, I do not mind if the service is down for a bit, but one of my clients could be very irritated about the above behaviors.

Same problem. It times out and says it can’t connect with reSmushit

    Hi Guys,

We had a big issue this last few days due to a DDOS attack, which should be fixed right now. This was the biggest unavailability of our API since the creation (3 days), and we’re currently working on it to avoid this kind of problems in the future.

    Thanks for your patience,
    Cheers,
    Charles

Servers go down all the time. You can do the best you can, but there are always going to be server issues. The plugin should handle server request timeouts more gracefully than just failing completely. I don’t know what the right timeout is, 10 seconds? 30 seconds? 60 sixty seconds… whatever it is, the plugin should not wait forever for server requests to complete successfully and if they don’t, it should then do the default (non-optimized) behavior as though the plugin were not active so that it doesn’t mess up the user experience and cause users to believe they have not uploaded an image at all.

I second that! No one should complain about some downtime and even more not with the fact in mind, that it’s a free service. Just put some error handling in place. I think a couple of seconds should be enough and then an unobstrusive fail message.

    Hi Guys,

The plugin has already a timeout, but for each request. However, we will introduce a pre-check process to verify the servers availability.

    Best regards,
    Charles
