Fix for users of Siteground Staging and Elementor

  • Posting with clear title to make solution easy to find for people in same situation.

    If your Elementor isn’t loading (white screen) even with all plugins off, and you’re using Siteground’s STAGING, here is the fix.

    Add the following line to the .htaccess file of your staging site…

    SubstituteMaxLineLength 10m

    Thanks to @ianmseattle for originally posting this, and Mihail Kirilov from the ridiculously good Siteground support team for discovering the fix.

    To the Elementor team – insanely good plugin, but geeze… this whitescreen problem isn’t good. Happens for too many reasons (not just staging), too easily. Please focus more resources on making Elementor more robust, as I’m sure you’ve lost customers due to people just getting tired of having to work around this problem. That aside, this is clearly the best page builder for WordPress and you should be damn proud.

  • Thanks for the post. I have many sites on Siteground, this issue is appearing on freshly setup non-staging sites as well. This fix worked on a non-staging site for me that was having the white screen issues.

    I’ve noticed this stops working again once you upgrade to the latest versions of Elementor*. Very very frustrating.

    Temporary solution:
    – Downgrade to Elementor 1.8.11
    – Downgrade to Elementor Pro 1.10.1

    If you use pro, you need to downgrade both. I’m not sure if it works with a more recent version that those above, I just went back to December releases (about 4 behind) to be sure…

    Edit: Also noticed on my main site (non-staging) the editor stops working unless I change to alternate-load mode in settings. Geeze… they really need to test this stuff, so frustrating.
