    Hey Everyone,

I am making coupons that give clients $10 off their first order. I did it by making a coupon with a “fixed cart discount”, and setting the value to $10.

WP does this by removing small amounts from each item until the $10 is reached. is there a way to have WP just simply apply the $10 discount to the total? thanks

    Hi @timbows

Yes, you can achieve this by changing the coupon type to “Fixed product discount” instead of “Fixed cart discount”. This will apply the $10 discount to the total of the first product in the cart, not distributed among all items.

Please note, if the first product’s total is less than $10, the remaining amount won’t be applied to the next product. It’s a “use it or lose it” type of discount. More info: https://woocommerce.com/document/coupon-management/

I hope this helps. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

thanks forgetting back to me so fast!

Is there a way where the amount is taken from the subtotal at the bottom, and leaves the pricing of the items alone?

by changing the item price, it makes doing returns more prone to user error

    Hi @timbows,

You can definitely set up your coupon to take the discount from the subtotal rather than individual items. Instead of choosing fixed cart discount, select Percentage discount. This will apply the discount to the subtotal of the cart.

ah ok. But that will only work as a %?

I can’t do a coupon that just takes $10 off the subtotal?

    Hey, @timbows!

By default, the coupon options on WooCommerce are the ones we mentioned :

    • % discount
    • Fixed discount that will take equal amounts from each product
    • Fixed discount on specific products

You might be able to achieve your goal by using a plugin that adds more coupon features.

We have a few coupon plugin options on our marketplace here. We offer support and 30-day money-back guarantee so you can test it out for all plugins bought on our marketplace.

If you want to check other options, you can search for “woocommerce coupons“, or something similar, on the Plugins > Add New section of your dashboard or on a search engine like Google, for example.

Please note that we do not provide support for third-party plugins, so it is good to check the plugin thoroughly to see if it is reliable. You can find more about this in this guide.

I hope this was clarifying. Please let us know if there’s anything else we can do to help or if you have any questions.

    Have a wonderful day!
