First WP theme – for a band site

  • Hi folks,

    this was my first web-project using WordPress. The band has been using WordPress for some time, but wanted to expand it using pages and various plugins all wrapped up in a brand new custom made theme. You can check the result here: https://www.alymysto.com

    Comments on the design (navigation, design, technical aspects, etc.) are welcomed. I didn’t want to get too deep in styling the css with lots of graphics, because the band plans to change the layout’s graphics every time to match their latest release (just like the current one is).

    the logo is really cool, I would buy a grey t-shirt with that red logo on the chest

    Dgold: actually, credit to the footer graphic (as well as the front page’s top image and band logo) fully belongs to the visual designer who made the band’s first album artwork (as credited in the releases-page).

    VBrown: No plans as such, the theme was tuned for the band site, so it isn’t suitable for general use and would anyway still be a little too rough around the edges for other people to understand or modify. ??

    defusethefire: they did have t-shirts with that logo on sell, but are now temporarely out of print (are were white on black). ??

    Are you sure that is your 1st web project using WordPress? That turned out great. You did a really nice job including the media on the right sidebar.

    But you should pay attention to the footer, seems a typo there on copyright, you typed copytight.

    RyanRE: Yes, this really was my first one with WordPress (though not the first time I’ve used xhtml/css in general). It was a bit tough at first to start reading the codex up front, but when I went through this tutorial on designing your own theme, things got a whole lot easier to understand afterwards. ??

    zimmer: That was a typo I eventually just left there since it sounded like a nice change from the usual “copyright” and there were no demands later from the band to correct it, though know when you pointed it out visitors might still regard it as a typo and not as trickery with words. Maybe I’ll change it.

    Any chance you are going to release this theme? I know many bands that would appreciate it.
