First-time with a localhost ground-up . . .

    How to begin?

    “Localhost Installs”

    is a first for me.
    Also, I don’t remember making an entry so far in the support forums with “Create a new topic +” yet.
    I did not check the checkbox to mark this as “this topic relates to mature content and may be considered Not Safe For Work (NSFW)” as I am not at work right now.
    I think I myself use my live WordPress install (Managed WordPress with GoDaddy–GoDaddy is @link https://godaddy.com) as half-blog and half-content-management-system.
    I do have “mature content” or “adult, age-censored material” that could at one point be used with this local host “localhost” install, but first and foremost I am trying to do an install to where I can copy my “online” and live WordPress as a copy to my device or a storage drive to then use what I have while “offline” to learn, edit, and create to then upload my modifications to the live site, keeping the live site from crashing as much as I can. (This would also help me cut Internet costs.)

    • My primary intent for the page I have linked is a hobby of mine, yet to become a business or sell things. I am still a student, about to graduate in 2021–hopefully.

    I rather work with www.remarpro.com (the link opens in a new tab) over WordPress.com (the link opens in a new tab).

    If I have not explained thoroughly enough what I’m trying to attempt, I have checked the “notify me of follow-ups” so I can come back and answer comments for this topic until (I guess) a moderator or admin closes the topic.

    Included with my GoDaddy (godaddy.com) Hosted, Managed WordPress I have a staging site and a production site. I am able to upload files through Adobe Dreamweaver (adobe.com) and that is the software I used to make my child theme. My laptop and desktop (web view) are Windows 10 HP, I currently do not have a working tablet (to test tablet view), and for mobile, I have Android (mobile view). Those are how I currently use my site when modifying or applying changes.
    In addition to the Managed WordPress with the two sites (production and staging) from GoDaddy, I am able to right now afford a cPanel hosting through them also. I have WordPress installed there also to a subdomain (blog.kylecblanchard.net). I was testing having the blog section be a completely different theme (blog.kylecblanchard.net uses a child theme of the default twenty-twenty theme) from the page I need help with (kylecblanchard.net and it uses a child theme of the default twenty-seventeen theme); I created the child themes myself.

    I assume you’ve already setup a localhost installation and now you wish to clone your live site to localhost. It’s essentially the same process as moving a site to a new server.

    Except you are not abandoning the old site.

    You’d typically need to change the domain name to localhost, but you can use the same domain name by editing your computer’s hosts file, then restarting the computer. Doing so will prevent you from accessing the live site from that computer until the hosts entry is removed. You have to change domains one place or the other, hosts or database. It’s arguable which is “better”. I like the hosts approach as I have no need to access the live site since I have a local clone.
