• Hi,
First time attempt at installing WordPress. I’ve uploaded all the files, altered the config.php correctly as far as I can see, but when I tap the /wp-admin/install.php url into my browser it asks me to download a file called ‘install.php’ which has a dreamweaver icon. I gather this isn’t meant to be a dreamweaver file so what might I have done wrong?
    Mac user.
    Cheers, Dean

  • Are you trying to install WP locally or on a remote server? Either way, it sounds like PHP isn’ running.

i’m using a remote server on a package which runs PHP 5.2.6 & Perl 5.10.0

if I open the file in dreamweaver it says Error PHP is not running.

Right now, PHP doesn’t appear to be running on the server. Have you tried contacting your hosts?

This must be the problem because I can’t access my database settings within my hosting account!! The page error says ‘The requested URL /phpmyadmin/ was not found on this server.’

I will give them a shout, cheers for the help, will let you know.

It was a problem with php not running. The hosts have sorted this out and I can now access phpMyAdmin.

But, my /wp-admin/install.php is not working (404 Not Found).

What else might I not have done?

    Thanks

…So far i’ve downloaded WP 3.1 and unzipped.

Replace the confip-sample.php file with config.php.

Resaved the config.php file with my database info and unique key/salt scripts.

Uploaded all the files onto the ftp. My host ftp shows two folders ‘logs’ and ‘web’. Other sites that I have running sit fine within the ‘web’ folder so this is where I have places the WP files.

Still just getting 404 Not Found page.

Any reason why I can’t install?? Feedback greatly appreciated!

    Site url?

I can’t find any WordPress files on your server. Not in the root domain nor in a /wordpress sub-folder.

    sigh

Here’s my ftp and the folders. Should this be set up differently?
(Can’t view the IMG) There are 2 folders, ‘logs’ and ‘web’. All my WP files are in ‘web’ which I can see fine.

Try asking your hosts for assistance.
