• This is my first time upgrading, and I’m using Bluehost. I’ve just created a “full backup” on bluehost so am I ready to start proceding with the upgrade to 2.5?

I’m probably going to ask several questions along the way of the upgrade.

  • Well, there’s a short and a long description of the process. Take care of step seven. I usually skip that, but from 2.3.3 to 2.5 it seemed required.

Dude, don’t worry too much. the upgrade process is a simple one 99% of the time and as long as you have a backup you are covered.

I am just starting why blog and it was installed as 2.33.

Is it best to upgrade straight away ?

An upgrade isn’t for everybody right away. Indeed, some plugins/themes may stop working so sticking with your current version may be ok for a time. i like to upgrade whenever a new version comes out just to ensure I’m running the most up-to-date version but that’s just my little OCDesque tweak.

If you can see an obvious advantage to upgrading, then do it. If not then feel free to hang back a while.

2.3.3 Doesn’t have any knows flaws or vulnerabilities, so if you’re on 2.3.3 there is no need to upgrade. I usually wait a bit, see if the plugins I run are compatible with the new version, install the new version on a test site and when everything works, I upgrade the real website.
I agree with minute’s 99%, but my 2.3.3 to 2.5 have been my most troublesome upgrade so far. Things went smooth (I had three bad attempts and then three good ones with six different installations) when I deleted “backend files” before upgrading.

yes, I’m getting the feeling that the upgrade to 2.5 can be a rocky one. I didn’t have a single issue but I guess I was lucky.

A test install is the way to go for sure if you want to make 100% sure you’ll be okay.
