First teaser displays incorrectly when not using featured post option

First of all, I have used this plugin on several projects without issue, so thank you for such a helpful tool!
On a current project, though, I’m having an issue with the first teaser. If I have the featured post option set to 0, the first teaser displays incorrectly on all archive pages: https://www.theroastedroot.net/category/main-dishes/animal-protein/
I have gone over the queries to make sure they match and I’m not seeing a conflict. Am I missing something?
