I’ve been using MailPoet – the free version – for several years for my nonprofit teacher’s page. I send out a weekly newsletter to about 250 people.

    Things I’ve noticed.

    1. I had to change the permissions in the uploads folder before it would install. Is it possible to just add that as part of the installation?

    2. It’s pretty cumbersome to recreate lists. I tried to explore the lists from MailPoet 2 into a cvs file. It would not accept the cvs file as exported, it would not accept it after I opened it in Excel, it would not accept it after I opened and saved it in Numbers. I was able to create ONE import list by copying and pasting the text file exported from MP 2, but then I couldn’t replicate that with any other copy/paste set of data.

    3. How are templates formed and imported? I looked at the source and it’s very different from MP 2. It needs documentation.

    4. I am unable to send from my server, although I could do so from MP 2. We’re a barebones volunteer organization and don’t have money to spend on a sending service. I have put in a request to our host provider to help me configure the service, but if I can’t send it for free, I won’t update to the newer version.

    5. It took a little time to figure out the widget kind of drag and drop, but I like it! Most excellent!

    Thank you for the feedback!

    1. We use WordPress’s temporary (uploads) folder to store data such as cache and export files. That requires “write” permissions, which can only be set by account owner/system administrator with direct access to the filesystem. The future Beta iterations will check for minimum requirements and display a warning, along with a solution, if one or more of the checks fail.

    3. MailPoet 3 offers a convenient way of exchanging newsletter designs (i.e., templates). The process is simple: you create your design in our interactive editor and then export it into a single shareable template file. To use the exported design, you need to select the template file under the import section during newsletter creation. The file itself is a JSON representation of the newsletter structure and content (including images!).

As per the sending and import/export issues, we would like to take a closer look at them and kindly ask you to contact us directly either by using the feedback widget (blue speech bubble) inside the plugin or by visiting https://www.mailpoet.com/support/beta/

My web host provided information on how to use their mail service, and that is working now.

As for the import, I have tried many, many times and ways to copy and paste an exported file from MP 2 into PM 3. There seems to be a limit on how many users I can import into a list. I tried with 50 and it doesn’t work, but if I remove 47 of them, it does.

MailPoet 3 has a very robust import function that allows one to import large files with tens of thousands of records. The problem could be with the source file from MailPoet 2 or something else. Please contact us so that we could troubleshoot this further and find a solution.
