First Category Not Working

    this is not working for me. I am creating a recipe site with the following structure

    Recipes
    — Appetizers
    — Dinner
    — Side Dishes

    etc.

    I have a recipe in Dinner and Recipes. As soon as I select “Use first category of post as parent” and save, nothing shows in my sidebar. I have the latest version of WordPress and your plugin.

    Any thoughts are appreciated.

    I’ve tested this and it does appear to be working with my test data.

    I think that you aren’t expecting this plugin to work the way it does. It only shows sub-categories for a given parent. If you take the parent from the post then that category must have sub categories to be shown. If you have more than one category for a post there is no guarantee that it will take the one you want (the plugin really expects you have only one category per post for the best results). So if you have a post with Dinner and Recipes as categories and Dinner is the first one chosen (by the WP function used) then it won’t show anything, which is correct because Dinner has no sub categories.

    I think you want to try to make it show categories at the same level instead (Appetizers and Side Dishes) by also adding the parent for them (Recipes) and the plugin just is not designed to do that.
