• Hi, is the new WAF module compatible with a multisite/network installation? Jetpack is activated network-wide and sites mostly use their own top-level domain. Does the option have to be activated on each individual site or does it behave similar to Protect?

    Hi @ravanh

Unfortunately, the Jetpack WAF module isn’t compatible with multisite at this time.

Hi @lastsplash thanks for your response ??

Unfortunately, the Jetpack WAF module isn’t compatible with multisite at this time.

I suspected as much… The thing is: the Firewall module appears at the top of the Jetpack > Settings > Security tab and can be enabled on each subsite of a multisite/network. What will happen if one or more sub-site owners/admins will activate the module? Is it going to cause issues or will it just not do anything?

Hi Rolf. This hasn’t actually been tested, since it’s not officially supported on multisite.

Our developers are looking into it, and we’ll get back to you once we know more.

Hi @drawmyface thanks for letting me know. In wait of testing results, I’ll disable the Firewall module on our multisite installs…

I heard back from the devs, and due to the way the plugin manages php files globally for the IP lists, when you save a list on a subsite, any lists from other subsites will be overwritten. For that reason, we don’t recommend using this feature on a multisite installation.

Ok, so that’s about the manual rules? What about the firewall option/functionality itself? I mean, without the “Enable manual rules” option activated?

    Hi @ravanh

Our development team advises against using the WAF in any capacity on multisite since it isn’t supported at this time.

    Ok, thanks for confirming @lastsplash

I’ll be using my own plugin Module Control for Jetpack to disable the Firewall option on the network ??

That sounds like a plan, and it’s also nice to hear that you have your own standalone plugin for managing Jetpack modules. ??
