Does the firewall extended protection mode have a negative impact on server performance? I’ve just enabled it for a site, and the load time increased a little bit. While it is within the range of normal variations, I would rather be sure that there is usually no significant negative impact.

You may notice a slight impact overall — however, it does go both ways. If your site begins to undergo an attack and the firewall is extended, then you’ll notice that the extended protection will help with performance due to not loading anything other than just the firewall once the block takes effect. This might be immediately (if the IP is blocked, or range is blocked), or after a short time if rate limiting or brute force catches the IP.

It will skip loading WordPress once the block takes effect, as when the firewall is optimized, the firewall loads prior to anything else on the site. This should help with resource usage on blocks. It is also safer to load the firewall first, so minimal performance impact would be worth it if that is what you’re experiencing.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Scott
