Finds no attachments although they are there

  • When I try to import my images I get the following error message:

    The program could not run. Check the error log below or your JavaScript console for more information
    There were no attachment files found in the import file.

    That’s odd, because the attachments are already in that import file.
    I also checked it with the standard wordpress importer, that imports my images from that file, but breaks up, what on the other hand was my reason for using the attachment importer… ??

    How to fix this bug?

    The XML parser in the Attachment Importer is having problems with illegal characters in my WXR data, so the browser’s XML parser can’t read some of the characters in the import file. That on the other hand has to do with, that some of our authors use special characters in the datanames of the pictures (such as kyrillic, chinese or german umlauts). Sometimes it also happens when they copy text from a pdf that contains ligatures or when they work from a Mac where Mac Roman is set for character encoding.
    The only solution is to correct/rename all the file names and/or the metadata in the Media Library.

    I have the same issue. Anyone got a good method to cleanse an XML file of illegal characters?
