• “The 2012 theme for WordPress is a fully responsive theme that looks great on any device. Features include a front page template with its own widgets, an optional display font, styling for post formats on both index and single views, and an optional no-sidebar page template. Make it yours with a custom menu, header image, and background.”

Well…maybe so, but for the life of me, I can’t find where these options are. They’re not in the “Customize” menu. Is this perhaps because my original install was with another theme?

Thanks for any help with this dumb question.

  • Have you activated the twenty-twelve theme?

Find step-by-step instructions under the ‘Front Page Template’ heading on this page.

Well, it appears that the problem here is that either by changing themes or updating plugins, the WP installation has been somehow corrupted, generally. [sigh!]

All sorts of stuff has vanished from admin menus, not just these theme options — for example, Jetpack has completely disappeared, though it is still up and running…somewhere.

It looks like I’m going to have to do an uninstall and start over fresh, unless someone has a better idea. I wouldn’t have expected this from WordPress.

FWIW – The only times I’ve seen WordPress get messed up is
    1) when someone does an update and due to issues on thier host the update times out and doesn’t finish
    and
    2) they get hacked.

I’d suggest reinstalling the wordpress software as a start. Watch to make sure the task finished or do it manually via FTP.

#1 is certainly possible and entirely likely; updates to various themes and plugins have failed numerous times for their own inscrutable reasons.

Is there a quick guideline for foolproof WP deletion anywhere here?

    Thanks!
