I’d like to learn more about website development with WordPress.

I’m not looking for a “beginner’s guide” to WordPress… I’m a programmer and have put together several websites already.

The problem is that they are pretty generic. What I am looking for is how to make a website look more professional and unique. The ideal course would have a lot of design principles in it (how to craft the look and feel of the site and make it appropriate to the business) and how to implement those principles specifically in WordPress (rather than say Bootstrap, pure Javascript, or any framework besides WordPress).

My business is math and computer science tutoring. I’ve looked for “educational themes” but almost all of them are about tutoring centers or educational institutions. And they all use “academic” tropes. I’d like a site that conveys the idea of a small business dedicated to in-home tutoring.

I own a general-purpose theme, Creatus. Since it can do just about everything but fix the kitchen sink, it might be a good one to use. But it doesn’t give me the “head start” of looking like a more defined theme, so I need more instruction.

    Mike

Good questions but really beyond the scope of the support we offer here. Find a site (or sites) you like and borrow those elements you think best for yours. There are web design forums and courses to be found both in classrooms and on the web.
