Is it not possible to find the downloadable filename of a deleted product in Woocommerce?
If you delete older products there’s no filename when you edit an order if the product is deleted.
I can’t find the filename either under Analytics/Downloads/order. It just say “Deleted”.

We have users in different customer profiles and products must be named the same but the download filenames are different for each profile. It requires a lot of disk space, so we have to delete older ones to not go over max server disk size.

But we have the files on our own private server and can provide the user the file manually if the user lose it, but the problem is we don’t know which file he downloaded as Woocommerce just say “deleted” and there’s no filename showing.

Is there a way to find these filenames when products are deleted or can you add the filename in text at least when editing the order, so we can find the file for the customer and send it manually?

  • Hi @blackbird69

I understand that you are trying to locate the filenames of deleted products.

I’m having a bit of a challenge understanding the problem because products are not stored as individual files, so when you delete a product its record is erased from the database.

Are you referring to downloadable products and their filenames? Could you please provide some clarity about the requirement?

If applicable please share with us a screenshot for better understanding. We recommend https://snipboard.io for sharing screenshots – please follow the instructions on the page, then paste the URL in this chat. It works with Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge.

Filenames on downloadable digital files in products. They are gone from the order when products and files are deleted.

When you deleted products and its associated digital downloadable files, the filenames of those files are not in the order anymore of you edit them – maybe it happens after expiring date – I don’t know – but they are gone.

My customers have 10 days to download the files and then they expire. After that the products and its associated digital downloadable files will be deleted.

The problem is there’s no way to find these filenames anywhere. No history of the filenames – just “deleted” instead of showing the filename.

    Hi @blackbird69 ,

    Thanks for reaching out!

Kindly note that once a digital downloadable product is deleted, all information pertaining to this product itself will be removed which is why you are seeing [deleted].

This is the default behavior and would recommend either saving the information in Google sheets or similar, alternatively you could download the report prior to deleting the products.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi there @blackbird69

Thank you for sharing the screenshots!

I understand you’d like to keep a history of the downloadable file names that were associated with the order containing the deleted product.

If you delete a product permanently, sadly, there’s no way to retrieve the file name as all the metadata associated with that product gets deleted.

It might need custom coding to attach the downloadable file names to the order as custom meta so that you could edit the order and refer to the file names whenever needed by looking at the custom fields associated with that order.

    I hope this helps! ??

    Thanks for the help.

I will use the download options in Analytics/Downloads/ and hopefully remember to do that before deleting anything.

    Hi @blackbird69 ,

    You are very welcome!

This would be a great idea to ensure you have all the required information prior to deleting the product.

    Best,
