Hi, I have been configuring my bbpress with private groups plugin, everything goes fine.
However, I’m wondering if there is a possibility for filtering the users which belongs each private forum. When you have a lot of users it’s difficult to deal with all of it.

In WP you can filter by user category (admin, moderator, subscriber…) in the top bar, I think it would be an excellent improvement the ability of filtering users by group.
Also, would be great to assign a private group to several users at time with a batch action.

What do you think? Do you know any way for dealing with this?

    Thanks!

  • Hi,
I’ve just installed and configured Private Groups with my BBpress forum.
Unfortunatly, this is just not working at all.
    I’m working with 2 forums (A & B) and 2 groups (1 & 2).
Forum A should be visible and used by Group 1.
Forum B should be visible and used by Group 1 and Group 2.

The trouble is : there is any restriction for the forum A :
The forum A is visible in the index forum for any logged user (of any group)… and any logged user can work with it.

Next: ‘Private Groups’ widget don’t apply any “filter” on forums. Then, any logged user can see topics and replies of any forum.

Please, could you give me an advice to solve this?

    Hi (it’s me again)
I’ve finally understood that Private Groups is closely linked to parent forum and subforums notions.
Then, creating a parent forum seems to solve the issue I told you a few hours ago.

    But I still have 2 questions :

    – I use 2 forums but none is a subforum of the other. Is there anyway to keep these 2 forums at the same level (without using one of theme as a parent)?

    – The bbpress search functionality and widget are both dealing with all topics of all forums. I mean that the search functionnality does not take into account groups defined with Private Groups when displaying the results list. That’s true that a non authorised user can’t access to the detail of a topic (nor reply to it), but he can see all topics and their content. My question is : is that a normal behaviour of the plugin (maybe I missed something!)? Is there any solution to force the search functionnality to only deal with authorised forum/groups).

(at last, sorry for my very bad english).
    Best regards

This thread was asking for other question, about users filtering.
Glad about the fix for your problem Mareva, but the main topic is not resolved and still open.
For your next issue please open your own new threat for maintain the forum’s order and to facilitate future searches.

I hope Robin could give and answer to my original question.

    Thanks

    Hi Diggeridoo!
Sorry, my last reply was straight!
In fact, my issue deviated to another topic on this forum (and it has been solved thanks to Robin). I thought it was this topic when I sent my last post.

    diggeridoo,

Apologies that I haven’t answered your original question.

This plugin is still fairly new, and I’m working on a bunch of stuff to improve it.

Yes I agree with both your ideas, and have added them to my list of things that would be good.

However I still have much to learn about manipulating the backend of wordpress, so will need to do some more investigation on how to code these, so it not that I don’t think they should be coded – they should – it’s finding the time to work out how !!

But keep ideas coming, I’m a one man band, so don’t get feedback unless you guys give it !
