With the installation of DataTables TableTools Extension, Tablepress allows the front-end visitors to filter, sort, print & export tables to their liking.

My client has very large tables who needs to perform the same functions (filter & sort) in order to accurately edit the cells – my question is can a user filter & sort in the backend? similar to what the extension allows front-end users to do?

    Hi,

thanks for your post, and sorry for the trouble.

Sorry, I don’t really have good news here ?? Those JavaScript functions are not available on the “Edit” screen in the backend at this time.
There is however a sorting function (not as sophisticated as on the frontend though), by clicking the sorting arrow icons in the column headers. Note that this sort order will then however be saved as well.
For filtering, the browser’s search function is usually pretty good.

For more advanced functions for editing, I suggest to maybe export the table to CSV, open that in Excel, edit the table there and then re-import the CSV file, choosing to replace the existing table.

    Regards,
    Tobias

    Thanks for responding Tobias!

All the options you mentioned we have explored to various levels of satisfaction for the client. Is there someone you recommend we could engage to build an extension to to your plugin that would perform what we are looking for?!

    Much appreciated

    Hi,

unfortunately, I don’t really see a possibility for this ??
The problem is that the structure of the fields on the “Edit” screen is very closely connected with the saving process of a table (which is done through AJAX/JS as well).
Using a JS library like DataTables, or even doing something like that manually, would break that structure and with that the saving process.

    Sorry that I can’t offer a solution here ??

    Regards,
    Tobias
