Filter is producing constantly 404 Soft errors

  • Hello everybody,

    since I made changes in the descriptions of my categories I am using with my search search, google webmastertools counts me everyday more and more 404 soft errors.

    I don′t know if this provokes the problem, but my assumption is that the main issue is that the URL′s which are created by the search results, are so long and complicated that google thinks the pages are error pages.

    Some of the 404 soft errors are search results pages which result of search combination that don′t exist as the combination of the different categories don′t have any result.
    This is an example of the page and the URL.

    But other errors are search results which are “real”. For example this one.

    So the my question is: what can I do that the filter is not generating theses 404 soft errors anymore. Is it possible that the errors are generated because of the lengths of the URL′s? Does it has anything too see with the “Ajax results”?

    I don’t think the url will be the problem.

    First, 404 mean the url is broken. So, the ‘no result’ page url doesn’t have to mean it is 404. The link is not broken, it has content in it. (eg, tell you no result found). But I don’t know how your theme handle the search not found page. Because some theme might will redirect to 404 page when result not found.

    But I think you can disable google from crawling the search page.

    Ajax result is another approach to display the result. In Ajax results, the results will be in the same page as the search form. But google bot will not indexed the search result though.
