Filter Function is it coming?

Any chances the gallery will get a front end filter that could be used to filter the gallery on the fly. Problably been asked before, could really be usefull. That other gallery grid watever has this functionality but i dont want to keep adding plugins for bits and pieces. Filtering any ideas? Will it ever be a reality?
