Filter doesn’t appear on page resize

I’m trying to use two product category filters for my store page: one enabled for desktop and one enabled for iPad/mobile. The desktop version in in a sidebar, and the mobile version is implemented with a short code directly above the products. I have the correct settings checked on each filter (to show on desktop or iPad/mobile) and the setup works correctly except for one thing: when resizing the browser on desktop the desktop filter will disappear as it should, but the iPad/mobile filter won’t appear unless you refresh the page. Is there a way to show this without a refresh, or possibly some different way of showing desktop/mobile filters?
