I’m trying to lock all files that have been uploaded to the WordPress media gallery for not logged in users by default, even if no user group is assigned.

In the documentation it says that only users with access should be able to download files, if the “lock files” option is active.

However, when no user group is assigned to a file, the file is still accessible by its link.

Does this feature only apply to files that belong to a UAM user group?

Yes the files are only locked if the are assigned to a user group, but the lock is also inherit from posts or categories.

    Ok. Thanks for the hint.

In this case a feature would be helpful that allows you to set a default user group for files that have been uploaded in the media library.

This feature comes with 2.1.10. Just choose your preferred groups at the default user group settings for post type media.
