    Hi,

I deleted Hummingbird today, with the option selected to delete all settings too. But using GTMetrix to speed-test my site shows the error “avoid chaining critical requests” and when I click to view more details, eight Hummingbird JS and CSS files appear. GTMetrix is only flagging 11 files under this eeror, so the Hummingbird ones are the majority.

I’ve added the paths below. Why have these been left behind after deletion, and should I delete them manually or will this cause technical issues?

Interestingly, GTMetrix is alternating between giving my site and A rating and an E rating (it flags up the Hummingbird-related errors when it gaves an E rating).

    Thanks for your help,
    Kate

    Hi @brittbritt9291

    I hope you’re well today!

These two are WordPress core files and should be left intact, they are not related to Hummingbird:

    https://www.lovemyanxiousbrain.com/wp-includes/css/dashicons.min.css?ver=5.8.1 35.2KB, 63ms

    https://www.lovemyanxiousbrain.com/wp-includes/js/hoverIntent.min.js?ver=1.10.1 1.07KB, 28ms

The other files (those in /uploads/hummingbird-assets/ folder) are temporary files containing assets optimized by Hummingbird’s “Asset Optimization” tool.

When a plugin is deactivated and removed those files might be removed or kept there depending on settings on “Hummignbird -> Settings -> Data & Settings” page:

    – if you only set “Data” to “Remove” but the “Settings” is set to “Preserver” – they’ll stay there; that’s because they are related to Asset Optimization settings

    – if you set also “Settings” there to “Reset” – they’ll be removed.

You can safely remove these files but the fact that GTMetrix is detecting them means that the pages of your site are cached and there are still references to these files. So the first step would be to clear all the caches that you know of – on site if there’s any caching plugin installed (other than Hummingbird), on server, on CDN if you are using any.

After that you can verify that these files are no longer detected by GTMetrix (are no longer in use) and they can be completely deleted from server manually.

    Kind regards,
    Adam

Hi Adam, thanks for such a helpful and detailed reply.

I waited until my CDN cache had fully cleared and the pagespeed scores were not so good! So I’ve actually decided to reinstall Hummingbird and work on setting it up using the docs. So far, it seems to be working well!

    Thanks again,
    Kate
