• Hey there,

i have some issues. The log shows no errors. All files are within the created zip, except the ones in the root folder. This also includes the database backup-file which is missing too. Tested with PHP 5.6.36, 7.0.30 and 7.2.6

It also happens on my five other installations. I backup to a FTP server. Any help?

  • Updating to 3.6 DOES NOT FIX THIS PROBLEM. After updating, I am still getting the same issues:

    – If I set the backup to be a .zip file, the root files are missing from the backup unless I use 7-Zip to extract the file, which defeats the purpose of a .zip file, which can normally be opened by Windows without extra software.

    – If I set the backup to be a tar.gz file, I get a tar.gz file of around 40mb, and when I extract that I get a 0mb .tar file that can’t be opened at all.

The only thing that’s changed with BackWPUp 3.6 is that clicking the “last run” download link from the BackWPUp Jobs panel bounces me to the Backups panel showing a list of backups, instead of downloading the file.

Sorry my late reply, please open the backup file with Winrar or another archive manager.
    Is this helpful?

Yes, I understand that, but I think you’re missing the point.

Normally you don’t need any extra software like WinRAR to open a .zip file. Backups in .zip format generated by versions of BackWPUp before 3.5 do not require any extra software to open, they open normally by double-clicking, and there are no missing files. Only backups generated by BackWPUp version 3.5 and later require an archive manager in order to see all the files — this is not normal for a .zip file.

Additionally, .tar.gz backups generated by BackWPUp version 3.5 and later do not work at all – opening them with an archive manager results in a 0mb file that can’t be opened.

I can confirm that I’m having the same issue. If I browse within the ‘.’ directory in 7-Zip, I can see all the root files, but no directories. It looks like BackWPup is moving all files in the root directory to an upper level directory while leaving all sub-directories in place.

This is apparently a new development. It never did that before.

I have the same issue, root files going into . (dot) directory and can’t see them with windows zip.
Ill use 7zip or WinRAR until the issue is resolved, thanks!

Obviously, BackWPup has no interest in solving this problem. So I will be using a new backup plugin. Does anyone have any suggestions for a backup tool that actually gets support and produces files that can be extracted with Windows?
