    Hi,

I have performed a site reset on my development website as I wanted to start if possible with clean wordpress and just wanted to keep the plugins, themes and media files. After I have performed the reset I can see that everything went to a clean WordPress installation and all the files are present on the server when looking via FTP client, but are not displayed in the Media tab in wordpress. Like the complete Media tab is empty with no images, documents, etc.

Do you know how to fix that?

    Kind regards

    Michal

    Hi Michal,

Thank you for reaching out and providing detailed information about your situation.

From what you’ve described, it sounds like the site reset you performed has indeed worked as expected. The reset process typically clears the WordPress database, reverting it to a fresh installation state. This means your plugins, themes, and media files remain on the server, but their records in the WordPress database have been removed. That’s why, even though the files are present when you check via FTP, they do not appear in the Media tab within WordPress.

This behavior is standard for a reset operation, where the goal is to start clean while still retaining the physical files on the server for backup or reintegration purposes.

To fix the issue with the media files not appearing in the Media tab, you’ll need to re-import them into WordPress. This can be done by using a plugin designed for importing files into the WordPress media library from your server. One such plugin is “Add From Server,” which allows you to import your media files back into the WordPress database, making them visible in the Media tab again.

    Kind regards,
    Younes
