File System Backup timing out every time

What is the last message you see before the failure, on the progress bar?

If the last message in event log is “File system scan completed” it is likely a similar but different issue, and may be better in a new topic.

I’ve been working on some possible ways to fix the issues in this topic but not finished them just yet as it’s quite difficult since we can’t work out what the actual root cause is.

Definitely deactivate those other two plugins though and try a backup again and see if it is those plugins. Also check you have enough hosting space available to create the backup – it’ll need to duplicate your blog into a compressed backup file and there needs to be enough space for that.

Updated yesterday. Now I get this message after the file system backup is completed:
“The activity cannot proceed any further due to an unknown problem. Please visit the Help & Support section for information on where to find help.”

Seems to be the same error.

Have you tried to disable WordPress Better Security. There may be a security plugin conflict.

I have no such plugin ??

I’m having the same problem as sgreggan with diferent version of wordpress

All was working fine since november 19th the last backup i have completed succesfully. (Both scheduled or manual download backups)

No updates since then (i backup all before updating any plugin)
No server log errors detected

Since the last wordpress backup all my attempts to make a backup return with a timeout… takes ages to copy for example images and didnt finish the backup ending with timeout!

The only change i did was changing to the last version of wordpress.
