One of the hazards of copying files to thumb drives and servers is that often the file permissions get reset to read/write/execute for the user only with no permissions at all for the world (aka internet). wp-admin needs to be set for read and execute. But every file within that folder has only user permission and no world permission. Obviously some of those files must have read and execute permissions for install to work. I gave permission to the install.php but I still get a user name/PW prompt which tells me some other files need their permissions changed. Is there an FAQ on this?

Answered my own question. Initially with an install file all permissions are rwx and those permissions are changed by install to the final value. Don’t try to move the install file using a thumb drive as that seems to mess up the permissions.
