what kind of permission are you talking about. There are many.

I’m using the Content Control plug-in to restrict access to pages and document libraries on pages. But, if someone searches for a specific report and it shows up in the search results, they’re able to preview or download the file even though they see nothing on the actual page the file would be on if they simply navigated to it.

So, I don’t know if the right question would be, is there a way to restrict search results?

    Thanks.

there are many things you can do to protect files, it all depends on what level of private you want.

    1) each file can be set to private so only the owner and contributors can see it.
    2) setting the file to only download by members
    3) Making the post private will hide it from the search form non logged in users and will only show for users that have the ability to view private post
    4) Globally hide and file for non member or hide all files in general
    5) Globally hide all post for non member or hide all post in general.

you can choose the one that works best for you.
