I have my SMTP password (which I use in the WP mail SMTP settings) stored in my wp-config file.

To secure my wp-config file I want to change the file permissions from 600 to 400.

Is that a problem for the WP mail SMTP plugin to do his work? Does the plugin need wriye access to wp-config? Or is it save to change the file permission to 400?

  • Hi @wp-opti,

I apologize for the delayed response. 400 permissions mean only the file owner can read it. So, as long as WordPress can read the file, there should not be any issues.

    I hope this helps!
