• Hi,

I recently moved one of my domains to a new web host. Let me try to make it short.

I copied all the files and pasted into the new host. Then I imported and exported the database. I changed the wp-config.php file to match the database configuration in the new host. Finally, I changed the nameservers. Everything went smoothly, with literally no down time!

Now, the issue is that I can not modify any files from WordPress backend. For example, if I change the permalink structure, I get a message “You should update your .htaccess now.” I set the permission to 775. Only 777 and manual editing through SSH or FTP works. I do not want to use 777 or SSH, everything I want to make a modification.

Did I miss anything while moving the files?

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Pothi.

  • You will probably have to talk to your Web host on this, as permissions can be very webhost-specific.

As a long shot, since I had this exact problem after a web host move, I would recommend checking if you are running php Version 4 or 5 on your new web host. I had to do a lot of 777’s to get another Open Source CMS to work in Version 4.
