File field not working in view mode.

When I create a interface with an upload field, the resulting document (PDF) is displayed correctly with a pdf icon and link to the file, BUT when I create a view page, linked to the list grid item, the resulting file field is a generic ‘file’ with the document size but no link.

The field settings are the same, for the file upload field, on both the view interface and the list interface.

What am I doing wrong
