• Hello,

    Question, I just updated WordPress from 4.4 to 4.4.1 and after that I ran a Wordfence scan. Even though I just updated seconds before, it tells me there is a file difference on wp-includes/version.php. The difference is that on my system there is an additional line added:

    $wp_local_package = ‘nl_NL’;

    This happens with every WP update, and every time I just tell Wordfence to restore the original version. That works just fine, everything remains Dutch. But then, with the next update it happens again.

    How can this be if I just updated WP? Is there a wrong comparisson in WordFence?

    Thanks
    John-Pierre

    Yes, it is because of the way WordPress releases versions with various languages, and the way Wordfence compares the core files. Our dev team is working on this issue for a future version. I don’t know the date it will be finished, but it is in progress. The reference number for this issue is FB518. Thanks!

    Ok, thank you for your reply

    (strange issue though as it doesn’t happen with all my WP installations and they are all set to the Dutch GUI)

    Thanks — that is a little unusual. Is it possible that some of the sites were installed using the official Dutch zip file, and that others had the language files added separately?

    I’m not that familiar with WordPress’s language support, but it looks like there are two methods currently being used.

    Hi, yeah could be. The issue is on older websites that date from before they moved the language setting from the config file to the GUI. I have removed it from the config, so it looks like there is another setting left somewhere. I guess I’ll need to dig into that. Thanks, JP

    Thanks, it helps to know that too — we’ll try to take both situations into account when working on this.

    Hi Matt,

    I updated WordPress to 4.5 and WordFence to 6.1.3
    The problem still exists. A year ago you already replied to another post about this in the forum here that this is on the dev list. It’s very annoying having to ignore/restore this with every WordPress update.

    Thanks

    Hi JP,

    Thanks, we do understand that it is annoying for installations using non-english settings. It is still on the list to be implemented, and will probably be relatively soon, now that the new firewall has been released. This took a lot of development effort over the past 9 months or so (details on our blog here), which left less time for the smaller issues — but we have not forgotten about them!
