The Daily Security Digest email and the iTheme Security Logs tells me that file changes are detected daily, but when the log is clicked for details no files are listed as changed, neither are they reported in the email.

On the server I’m using, email activity leaves a mail log file at the web root. I’ve set this to be excluded from detection but I wonder if it’s still triggering the file change notification and only being excluded from the the ‘details’ message?

    Thanks for any insight

As far as the log is concerned (but probably the Daily Security Digest email as well) I think that the “File Changes Detected” entries in the Function column are a bit misleading.

“File Change Detection” is a daily scheduled activity. Whether it actually detects any changes or not it will add a “File Changes Detected” entry to the log every day.

I think iThemes should have called the log entry “File Change Detection” which leaves less room for misinterpretation.

You could argue that it would be more practical to always add a log entry but report anything regarding “File Change Detection” in the Daily Security Digest email only when file changes have actually been detected.

If the above info answers your question please mark the topic as ‘resolved’.

    OK, that makes sense. Thanks.
