Wordfence is warning that this file has changed on all my sites:

    Modified plugin file: wp-content/plugins/akismet/changelog.txt
    Type: File

I can see that Akismet was updated a few days ago. But the changelog shows 4.1.6
    Release Date – 4 June 2020.

When I browse the code, it looks as if a few minor text file changes happened a few days ago.

Can I safely ignore this warning?

  • Got the same alert:

wp-content/plugins/akismet/changelog.txt was edited to remove entries from 4.1 to 4.1.5 were removed.

It sort of looks like the changelog.txt from version 4.0.8 was restored somehow. File edit date shows it was edited in June, same month 4.0.8 was released.

Be nice to know how this occurred and if it’s associated with an exploit.

Anyone have anymore info on this. I’ve had it pop up on 3 of my sites (expecting more.) all are up to date. And Akismet is even activated.

Same here. Wondering what this is and if it is something I need to worry about.

You can ignore this. We just updated our readme to add more details and FAQs and moved older changelog entries into changelog.txt.

I just got this as well. Thanks for the info. Set my mind at ease.

    Thanks
