Fields labels

I have a site for a customer and a site for testing(backup site)
On the live site I have a situation where the message field in my form does not appear. It has been working for months and today I changed the e-mail address the customer wants mail to go to for the contact form and now the message field is stuck on ‘text’ instead of ‘text-area’
Whatever I do I cannot change it.
I have checked my backup site (which is using the same version) and it is configured correctly, (message: ‘text-area’)
I cannot understand why this has changed and cannot be reconfigured.
