• I used Co-Authors Plus to add co-authored custom content types to author archive pages. It worked, but only just!

The general mission of this plugin is great and adds much-needed functionality to WP. It’s just that getting it to work is a little bit… fiddly.

For example, it took me a while to understand the relationship between guest authors and users. Mapping one to another is a neat idea. But then having to un-map them all again once I need to make changes to a user’s profile is janky. I was forced to do this about a dozen times!

The plugin also doesn’t play particularly nice with metadata; specifically the popular Yoast SEO. I was forced to uninstall Yoast and look for an alternative when the custom meta titles I had set for my user profiles started swapping randomly. So black marks for that. But not a showstopper.

Overall, I gave 3 stars because I think Co-Authors Plus is headed in the right direction. It’s just not for beginners.
