Focus less on design and w3c and Much more on content quality and unique voice. Most people care much less about the look of your site than the actual content. Think of Google, a great site with virtually no design.

@webene, it already looks simplistic to me. Maybe it’s just personal taste?

I would add some form of food into the graphic/background. Maybe try to find a food related template?
