    Hi @clintw16

    I see that you have multiple series as well. Are the series feeds updating properly? If these are new series’ that you’ve created and the episodes are not appearing within the default feed, I would first check Podcast > Settings > Feed Details > Select the recently created series and make sure that the checkbox for Exclude Series from Default Feed is unchecked.

    Yes they are…. it just suddenly stopped updating the feed\url so spotify \ apple and google wont update list. They are all there and right on our site just not on the feed url

    Our podcast feed here: https://citychurchbloomington.org/feed/podcast is also not updating. In our instance, we’ve selected to have our “sermons” post type have the feed. We’ve added new sermons to our site as you can see here: https://citychurchbloomington.org/sermons/ but they are not being included in our podcast feed and subsequently itunes and other sources not updating.

    Andrew, that is exactly what our is doing and we only by the last episode added can we tell when b\c our is update weekly. Any more than that we can not figure out a cause, a setting change, or even update caused bug. we are hoping Seriously Simple Podcast folks can help out

    @keleigh824 thoughts?

    @keleigh824 – any updates/thoughts on this? We seem to be having the same issue as @clintw16 here as well. Thank you.

    Seriously Simple Podcasting uses a default RSS feed for a “default” podcast and then it creates an individual RSS feed for each series. We treat each Series as an independent podcast show, which is why it gets assigned it’s own RSS feed. The default feed follows the URL pattern of domain.com/feed/podcast. The Series RSS feed follows the URL pattern domain.com/feed/podcast/series-name. With a recent-ish plugin update (about a month ago), any newly created series are automatically excluded from that default feed (whereas they were automatically included previous to this update) so I think there may be some confusion here because of how you two were used to the plugin working (including episodes automatically). To get these new Series episodes included in the default feed, you’ll need to go to each Series feed details and ensure that the checkbox for Exclude Series from Default Feed is unchecked and then Save Settings. You’ll also need to do this for every new series you create going forward when you setup the series feed details (Podcast > Settings > Feed Details > Select Series Name)

    Note: Series created before that plugin update should still be including episodes in the default feed if you’re still publishing episodes to that series.

    @andrewtoohill

    After reviewing your site, it appears this is the case for you.

    As an example, https://citychurchbloomington.org/series/touch-the-sky/ – this seems to be a recently added series as the earliest post is from August 1. You can see the Series RSS feed is updated as it should be: https://citychurchbloomington.org/feed/podcast/touch-the-sky. This means the episodes are posting correctly, but that main default feed is not included them. Go to Podcast > Settings > Feed Details > Touch the Sky and uncheck the box to exclude that feed. After saving the feed details, do a hard refresh of your default RSS feed and you should see the episodes within the default feed. You’ll need to do this for any other series that you see episodes are being excluded from the feed. (Like this one too, https://citychurchbloomington.org/series/the-apocalypse/ / https://citychurchbloomington.org/feed/podcast/the-apocalypse/)

    @clintw16,

    After reviewing your site, it appears this is the issue for you as well.

    Looking at a latest episode, Your Circle it belongs to a series Change your World 2021 (https://www.bchurch.org/series/change-your-world-2021/) and the episode published properly to the series feed (https://www.bchurch.org/feed/podcast/change-your-world-2021/) This looks like a new series (created after the plugin update) and so the episodes would automatically be excluded from the default feed. Please follow the steps mentioned above, make sure to save settings after you make the changes, and then do a hard refresh of your browser with your default RSS feed to make sure that you’re not pulling a cached version.

    I apologize for any confusion here and I hope this explains what is happening but please let me know if you still have any questions.

    Thank you @keleigh824 , this fixed the issue we had here. Question, I notice this article from 6 months ago explaining this setting and how it was disabled by default: https://support.castos.com/hc/en-us/articles/360018923579-Excluding-Series-Episodes-From-The-Default-Feed . Why has this flipped so new series are not included by default on the main feed? I just don’t understand this change you mention. Why not just leave it set as unselected by default? Thank you again.

    Hi @andrewtoohill,

    Thank you for bring that article to our attention, it does need to be updated to reflect that it is enabled now by default.

    The switch was made because of how the majority of our creators typically use Seriously Simple Podcasting. One Podcast (show) per RSS feed and each Series they create is a separate Podcast. So the default feed is being used as one podcast, not as a general feed to include all episodes from other Podcasts.

    When episodes were automatically being included, unbeknownst to many who first created a second podcast, the first episode they published in that series ended up on Spotify or Apple Podcasts under their other podcast (that uses the default feed). Since platforms don’t update immediately when the RSS feed changes (ie: episode removed), it would take several hours for the platforms to drop the episode (and that’s after the time it took for the creator to notice and either contact us for assistance or unpublish the episode). We found this to be a major pain point so now our creators need to give Series episodes permission to appear in the general feed.

    Hi, sorry for replying to an old thread but I appear to have a similar problem but I don’t have the settings options that are listed here. Any advice on with I could check?

    Thanks,
    David

    Hi @dpedlow,

    What version of Seriously Simple Podcasting are you using? In the latest release, you’ll be able to find the settings to include the series episodes within the general feed by going to Podcast > Settings > Feed Details tab. Next to “Default feed” text, you should see links to the series’ RSS feed details. Click the link to the series you wish to include in the general feed. Find and uncheck the box to Exclude series from default feed.

    Hi @keleigh824
    It’s version 2.9.9 I see why I couldn’t see the settings mentioned above as I had removed all series before trying those settings.

    I think my issue is slightly different as even episodes that aren’t in a series aren’t appearing in my feed.

    I should I open a new post so as not to pollute this one?

    Any debug tips would be gratefully received.

    Thanks,
    David

    Just wanted to say a massive thanks to @keleigh824 for all her help offline on fixing my feed issues. Genuinely top class support!!
