I recently upgraded to WordPress 2.0.2, and while I thought everything was going well, it turns out that my original feed addresses ( https://wordplay.lastpromise.com/?feed=rss2 and https://wordplay.lastpromise.com/?feed=atom ) no longer exist, and only point back to my blog, while a new feed ( https://wordplay.lastpromise.com/wp-rss2.php ) was inexplicably created. It’s nice to have a feed again, however I’d like my old feeds to work again because:

    1) Auto-discovery for Bloglines, etc. still finds my two older, now-defunct feeds and doesn’t find my new feed, so no one new can subscribe

    2) I’d like to get my old feeds to work again so I don’t lose those subscribers I already have. I’ve worked hard to get them. And, of course, I have no way of letting them know that my feed changed, unless they also visit my site, since those feeds are not showing updated material.

Any suggestions? I would very much appreciate it. I’m going crazy with all of this.

  • Did you change by any chance your permalink settings?
Because with the default permalinks the feeds you claim being disappeared – are there in my testbed. However, if I change the permalinks to some “nice” version – yes, the links redirect me to the homepage.

    Thank you for your answer!

I did. I changed them from default to the second one down on Wednesday, shortly after updating WordPress. It is now set on:

    Date and name based
    ? https://wordplay.lastpromise.com/2006/04/28/sample-post/
    or
    /%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/

So if I change back to the original way it should work? I’m a little afraid to just do it, since every time I think I’ve found a solution and give it a go I end up making things much worse.

Well, it’s up to you and on different servers not everything works the same way.
What I can tell: if I post something I know it either from experience or just tested it on one of my test installs.
