Features stopped working (exclude path, unique token)

    Hi,

    I’ve been using Duplicator for about 6 months on more than one websites. Recently (after updating both WP and Duplicator) two important features stopped working:
    1. No more excluded paths:
    No matter what path I set, all files get saved in the archive, nothing is excluded. I even tested it with the “sample paths” by clicking on the “buttons”.
    2. No more unique tokens:
    ZIP files are named by ending in __archive but there used to be a unique token too. This makes managing the files in the admin impossible too, since each subsequent archive overwrites the one and only file, since file names are always the same.

    Any ideas?
    A have not done anything to my sites except for keeping them up-to-date by installing whatever updates come along…

    EDIT: I forgot to mention that options are not saved either (like folder to be excluded). The plugin used to save the parameters, but not anymore.

  • Hey Szabez,

    In WP 4.2 there was an update on older Dbs to a new collation, I wonder if its related to that. Can you remove the plugin and reinstall the latest version and see if the problem persists?

    Thank you for your quick reply! I have run into the recent collation issue too (in my case non-ASCII characters were not displaying properly), but I could solve it by using define(‘DB_CHARSET’, ‘utf8’); in wp-config.php instead of define(‘DB_CHARSET’, ‘utf8mb4’); But I suppose it is an unrelated issue.

    Simply removing and reinstalling Duplicator did not help, so I used the “Cleanup” tools as well. After reinstalling the plugin I also used “Delete Legacy Data” and “Clear Build Cache” and right now on all four sites – on sites having these issues – Duplicator is back to normal.

    Is it possible that this was the solution? I used to use all these clean up functions after duplicating a site with the plugin, but recently I started to skip these steps in favor of only using the cleanup function displayed at the end of the installer, assuming that the latter is enough.

    With DB encoding things can get messed up really quick, I think that is the verdict in your case, at some point in the process the data got corrupted and was most likely in a state that it couldn’t be read again… Glad you at least got it going…
