Features of a PhotoLog?

  • I *should* have a little bit of extra time in the next couple of week and I would like to work on putting together a photolog that is functional, compliant, useful and would benefit people. This would, of course, be a modified version of WordPress. What features do you expect in a photoblog?
    I personally would like to be able to
    – seamlessly upload single pictures and have automatic thumbnail creation
    – extract EXIF data from picture and make it available to the post
    – be able to add text to a post around a picture
    – calendar with thumbnails
    – archive by month, with thumbnails
    – identify a post using its thumbnail
    – simple “previous” and “next” browsing of posts
    – comments
    Ideas? Comments? Suggestions? Requests?

  • Can we have the option to add the previous n thumbnails on the main page?
    Everything else sounds great.
    Another useful option would be to be able to upload an entire directory of pixs, and have one picture act as the representative. Click that picture, which appears on the homepage, and get to the directory with the rest of the pictures in the same series.
    Just kidding! ?? Your ideas are good enough ??

    I would love to see an automatically advancing slideshow feature that includes all images.

    How about albums ? Would that be taken care of by WordPress Categories ? I guess this is moving away from a blog and going towards a gallery package, but sometimes it might be nice to go back over dated entries and pull a few together for a theme. Being able to have a single post that describes that theme/Category/album and then shows all the thumbnails, which then link off to each original post would be lots of work and very neat !

    great idea! this would be just what i’m looking for! ??

    I’m in the middle of creating what i call WP ALBULMS…basically what your all talking about:
    -Auto thumbnail creation
    -Gallery for all images uploaded
    -Comments for each image (optional)
    -and more…
    List the features u all think i should add and i’ll post a zip of it all when i’m done! =)!

    Im happy with jsut about any kind of photo log, I dont want to try MT or anyone elses, WordPress has by far been the best, in my opinion.
    Cant wait to get it up and going,

    nicest features would be:
