• I need to be able to amend the plugin a little bit to display the following items and need some guidance in how best to do that.

    In my podcast feed, I need to add a category link, a share icon for the plugin we use, a Time to Read output from another plugin, and the Author’s name.

    I don’t mind editing files and am comfortable with that. I just wanted to make sure I am editing in the correct place within the seriously simple podcasting plugin files, specific to my theme, ideally, so that any updates to the plugin would not be updated over when updates occur in the future.

    Thank you, JO

    Hi @jonathanober,

    Just to be sure we’re on the same page, do you want those changes for people or robots? The podcast feed page is made for robots, not for people.

    Ok, let me clarify. I have a the Gutenberg Block – Episode List on my archive page (sorry, I used the word feed there), and displaying my first 15 podcast with pagination for older/newer podcast. What I would like to do in the article that is built class=”podcast-161774 podcast type-podcast” for instance would have a category displayed above the image/title of the podcast.

    I currently only see the tag designation, though I came across this article – https://support.castos.com/article/205-add-wordpress-categories-to-podcast-episodes-in-seriously-simple-podcasting which shows how to get the Category displaying in the admin. I just need to figure out where in the plugin I can add that, if that means duplicating some files to my theme so they are not lost in a future update process.

    Same with being able to display the authors name on the front end and an estimated read time.

    Hopefully, that was clearer for you. Thank you.

    @jonathanober,

    It appears there may be a misunderstanding between the archive and page functionalities. Typically, blocks cannot be inserted directly into archive pages, as their content is controlled programmatically within your theme files. However, the Episode List block can be used on any page to display a list of episodes. You’ll need to decide whether you want to utilize archive pages (e.g., /podcasts/my-podcast) or create custom pages with episodes using the Episode List block.

    Sorry for the miscommunication. What I am trying to do is display the pertinent information for our podcast in the cards that display. But I am having issue because /podcast/familylife-today/ shows Nothing Found, despite having 25-30 podcast with that category.

    So I went down the route of using a page with the Episode List Gutenberg Block and displaying the recent 15 which I can see, but I need to add other information to those cards. It would be great if I would be able to add in Author Name, Date of podcast, etc. If you can direct me in the plugin on how best to add those things without losing those changes when the plugin updates that would be great.

    Thank you,
    Jonathan

    Hi @jonathanober,

    Currently, the Episode List block doesn’t support displaying the author name and date of podcast fields. Customizing blocks can be challenging, so I recommend trying the archive page instead.

    Archive pages typically display author names and dates by default, and they are easier to customize. If podcast/familylife-today/ URL isn’t working, you might want to try podcasts/familylife-today/ instead. Additionally, you can check the podcast URL by navigating to Podcasting -> All Podcasts and clicking ‘view’ under the podcast title.
