‘Featured’ tag not adding post to Carousel

Tagging posts with ‘featured’ used to place them in the carousel.
This no longer works – posts need to be saved two or three times (re-tagging each time) before finally saving with the ‘featured’ tag which places them in the carousel. Would love have a fix for this tedious glitch.
