    Hi,

To have a slider displaying both old and new posts, I took advice from this forum and created a “Featured post” category which I chose as my featured category.

It works well but there is a problem: the articles displayed in the slider also appear in the content below, although I didn’t check the box ‘Include featured posts in content area’. Did I forget to do something?

Thanks for any tips you could provide on this matter!

  • Hi Korvapuusti. Don’t know if this well help but you might try checking the box, save options, then uncheck the box and save again.

Thanks for the advice. I tried but unfortunately it didn’t work.

The solution I’ve found for now is to exclude the “Featured post” category from the homepage with a (quite old…) plugin: WP exclude from Homepage.

It does the trick (the articles I want in the slider are in the slider only and not also in the content below) but I guess it’s a bit of a crappy DIY solution ^^°

I’d agree; that plugin is not the best solution. There must be some other problem because the theme explicitly excludes the featured posts in the content area unless you check that option box. Do you have any custom functions in a child theme functions.php file that relate to the post loop? Or it might be a conflict with a plugin that you’re using. You could try disabling your plugins and see if that fixes it. If so, enable them one at a time until you find the one that causes the issue.

I just have one function to add a custom font to the list in the admin panel and I changed the slideshow option to true, in order to have an automatic slider.

I tried enabling all my plugin and there was no change.

This is becoming quite a mystery.

What happens if you disable your child theme and run the parent theme?

    The same.

These are all in the child theme?

    Yes they are.

But then I checked if I didn’t forgot to mention some changes made to the theme and, actually, there was one: I included a Piwik script to the footer in order to have stats on the website.

When I took that piece of code from the child-theme (I had also included it in the parent theme, my bad), the featured category suddenly stopped appearing in the content area… Mystery solved.

Thanks a lot for your help!

You’re welcome. Glad you got it figured out. If you don’t need any further assistance here please mark the topic as Resolved. Thanks.
