Hi,
Thanks for offering to look into this.
I was just setting up a brand new site, and I took the opportunity to create these screenshots showing the problem.
Please note that this is from a PAGE (the default SAMPLE PAGE created by WordPress upon a fresh installation), and not POSTS.
And this is exactly what was reported two years ago, which you did not address. Quoting from the linked 2-year-old thread:
In addition, I have the problem that on pages (not posts) the featured image is displayed 2x ?? The first image fills the whole content area from the left to the right edge. The second is slightly smaller.
And again, from the same old thread:
The second problem unfortunately is however unchanged.
Why is the featured image displayed twice on a static page?
Your “solution” was:
You can do 2 things:
1. use Posts instead of Pages if you want to display a featured image
2. or if you insist on using Pages – remove the featured image and add the image in the post as the first element.
None of which addresses the real problem.
What seems to be happening is that the code that displays the featured page on the DEFAULT page template persists in the LEFT COLUMN and RIGHT COLUMN templates.
SUGGESTION: As you said, pages don’t typically display the featured image on the website… though it’s a good practice to set the featured image because they’re used when sharing links on social media. If you decide to RETAIN the display of featured images on PAGES (after fixing the repetition bug), it will be good if you could provide an option in the theme options for people who want to completely disable it. Thanks!
