• On PAGES using the LEFT or RIGHT columns (sidebars), the featured images is repeated.

I can see this problem was reported 2 years ago, and instead of a fix, the “solution” was a recommendation to NOT use featured images.

    Really?

Featured images are used as thumbnail images when URLs are shared on social media and in messaging apps, so to recommend that featured images are not used at all… instead of fixing the bug that’s causing the image to be repeated… is quite unfortunate.

Here is hoping you’ll re-consider this decision and actually fix this long-standing bug.

We did not recommend not to use featured image. Quite the opposite actually.
The person in the linked thread used pages instead of posts, that was the confusion. So using posts instead of pages was recommended there.
Pages don’t have featured img by default in the Morphology lite theme. This is not a bug but a conscious decision.

Pages don’t have featured img by default in the Morphology lite theme.

It seems you don’t know your own theme then. All PAGES in MORPHOLOGY LITE do show their featured image BY DEFAULT.

And yes, it APPEARS TWICE on PAGES with either LEFT sidebar or RIGHT sidebar.

And that’s exactly what the OK in the linked thread was talking about two years ago.

But, once again, instead of even testing and acknowledging the bug, you chose to deflect it and mark the thread as resolved. I’m marking it back as unresolved.

NB: If by “Pages don’t have featured img by default” you mean pages don’t heave featured image unless you assign it a featured image in the WordPress editor, then I’m wondering if you’ve never touched a WordPress site before.

Because it’s exactly the same process with POSTS.

Featured images are not magically attached to POSTS. You attach a featured image in the editor, and the THEME controls IF and WHERE it appears on the site.

Morphology Lite SHOWS the featured image on PAGES (which you don’t even seem to be aware of), and it shows it TWICE on pages using either the left or right sidebar.

We’ll double check this for the 2 page templates in question and push an update if necessary.

To avoid confusion, “Pages don’t have featured img by default in the Morphology lite theme.” – I was referring to our demo site content here.

    Hi,

Thanks for offering to look into this.

I was just setting up a brand new site, and I took the opportunity to create these screenshots showing the problem.

Please note that this is from a PAGE (the default SAMPLE PAGE created by WordPress upon a fresh installation), and not POSTS.

And this is exactly what was reported two years ago, which you did not address. Quoting from the linked 2-year-old thread:

In addition, I have the problem that on pages (not posts) the featured image is displayed 2x ?? The first image fills the whole content area from the left to the right edge. The second is slightly smaller.

And again, from the same old thread:

The second problem unfortunately is however unchanged.
Why is the featured image displayed twice on a static page?

    Your “solution” was:

    You can do 2 things:
    1. use Posts instead of Pages if you want to display a featured image
    2. or if you insist on using Pages – remove the featured image and add the image in the post as the first element.

None of which addresses the real problem.

What seems to be happening is that the code that displays the featured page on the DEFAULT page template persists in the LEFT COLUMN and RIGHT COLUMN templates.

SUGGESTION: As you said, pages don’t typically display the featured image on the website… though it’s a good practice to set the featured image because they’re used when sharing links on social media. If you decide to RETAIN the display of featured images on PAGES (after fixing the repetition bug), it will be good if you could provide an option in the theme options for people who want to completely disable it. Thanks!
