Featured images not shown in post preview

    My current theme uses the featured image as a background for the title inside the posts, thus making it necessary in all posts.

    If I try to preview the post inside the Gutenberg editor, the image is not shown. If I close the editor and preview it from the post list, it works. If i preview it from the classical editor, it works.
    Closing the editor and opening it again makes the image appear, but if I change it (the featued image), it does not change in the preview (although the image HAS changed as it appears using the other methods).
    Changing any text or adding other things works and is shown in the preview, but the featured image does not seem to be “updated”.
    This makes writing articles perfectly possible, but it’s a hassle to have to exit the editor every time I want to check the featured image.

    Hi and thanks for giving Gutenberg a spin.

    I think the issue is that auto-saving only saves title/content and excerpt. It’s similar to autosaves in the classic editor. You can try to click “Save Draft” before previewing to see if it’s different.

    I guess the classic editor is performing a regular save (instead of auto-save) when working on drafts? I don’t know the details personally but might be better to open a Github issuee https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues for other contributors more involved with this area to chime in.

    Hi and sorry for the late answer.

    That seems to be the problem, clicking “save draft” saves the featured image and everything works as expected.
