• I made the mistake of updating my blog to 5.4.1 and all the posts and pages no longer display the featured image. The featured image is still contained within the posts, they just don’t show up. I use the Twenty Fourteen theme because I like the 3 column layout.

I’ve done some searching and seen a lot of people having problems because of Jetpack but I do not have it installed.

I do not use the new block editor, because I think it’s made writing posts very difficult.

I insert my images, and create the featured image item using the NextCellent Gallery plugin.

    Any ideas?

  • No problem here with 2014 5.4.1 and Jetpack 842.

I think I might download 2014 again as separate theme, disable all of your plugins, view results, then activate the new unadulatered 2014. Or even load one of the later WP default themes to check featured images.

Personally I always recommend against using gallery or slide plugins (and plugins in general when possible ??

My guess is it has something to do with Nextcellent. You could disable that and see if featured images show.

    Hope this helps Maurice

I should have said I already disabled all my plugins – first thing I do when something breaks on an upgrade. Been doing this a long time. Always do that first. I also used Site Health, and it said only that I should think about deleting unused themes and plugins.

I use NextCellent because when I first started using WP, it had no inline gallery or lightbox functionality. (My website is heavily image oriented.)

I did download a new version of Twenty Fourteen, and uploaded it, but that did nothing to fix the featured image not displaying.

It’s funny, I almost always keep my old version around for just these kinds of reasons, but WP auto upgraded my site to 5.3.3 and it worked fine. SO never grabbed a backup. My bad.

I installed WP Downgrade plugin and rolled my install back to 5.3.3 and it corrected the Featured Image functionality.

Guess I have to turn off the auto-update function!
