Featured Images did not migrate

  • I have just migrated a site from one host to another. We are using a staging URL on the new host while we ensure everything has come across ok.

    The site has 370+ posts and for some reason, the featured images are not working. When I open any post I can see that an image is selected but it has a cross through it. None of the featured images are being displayed on the blog page.

    Because of the volume of posts, is there a quick way for me to fix these without having to open each post individually and setting the featured image again?

    Are you sure the images are in the new host AND they are with the right permissions?

    Yes, they are there because I can click on Set Featured Image again and it opens the Media Library and I can find the image in the library that should be used. Not sure about permissions.

    Update:
    I have checked the file URL for a few of the Featured Images and they URL in the new hosted site is different to the original file URL’s which I think is why they are not working.

    Is there a way for me to bulk update these or can I import the Media Library again whilst retaining the original file URL’s? I originally just used the WP import/export tools but the file permalinks now have 2018/05 in them instead of the date of when the files were originally pulled in the old hosting platform.

    I’m afraid not, as each media item should be in a folder depending on what’s registered in it’s post.

    Can’t you just copy all uploads folder from the old server and then upload it to the new one? Did you import those posts through WP Importer (Tools -> Import)? If so, did you check the “Download attachments” checkbox?

    I’ve tried using various backup & restore plugins. I’ve tried the built-in Export then Import into the new site. Doesn’t work. The Featured Images still do not display.

    Any other suggestions?

    P.S. And I’ve FTP’d the entire Uploads directory from the old host to the new host and still the featured images don’t show.
