• I’ve uploaded an image for a featured image slider in my theme with the dimensions 960 x 447. The main subject is a little off to the side so I cropped the thumbnail to center it.

All looks fine in the Media -> Library

When I set larger image as “featured” for my post it looks fine.

When I publish, the thumbnail it chooses to display is the original off center crop.

Is this a problem with WP or the theme?

    Thanks.

  • Hello all,

I am facing the same issue. Despite the fact that in admin section the featured image is the correct one (cropped), on category page, the image shown is the original with the cropped image’s dimensions. WordPress 3.5.1 and Avenue Theme.

    Thanks for any help!

I discovered, in my case anyway, that it’s a theme problem. Not a problem with WP.

Can you please mention what it was to check in my theme also?

Sry, I don’t know. The author of my theme has a forum and I asked there. He said his theme design doesn’t use the WP crops. Planned for future update.

    Hi there

I’m hoping this might be helpful. I am using Portfolio Press 1.5 on WP 3.5.1 and have been trying to work out why it was happening to me too with portfolio post type items. Within Appearance > Theme options > General Settings there is an option Display Images on Portfolio Posts that when unchecked does not automatically display the featured image… you can then add a different image into the post without duplication:

See the FAQs at the bottom: https://wptheming.com/2010/07/portfolio-theme/

So you therefore need two images in this case, one for the featured image with a decent crop and the main full size image. A bit of a faff but it seems to get round the issue…good luck ??
