• Hi Jan, your plugin works really well for including a set image in the Featured Image header section of my posts. However, I use Jetpack, which already includes a Featured Image option. What I was looking for is a standard Fallback image to use when my post doesn’t contain an image at all. When there is no image and I share my post on social media, the platform (particularly Facebook) will pick up a random image or the closest image and combine it with the post. I used to be able to click on Xs that appeared on the images to delete them but that doesn’t happen anymore. Sometimes the image is so different from the headline, it looks like there is an error and it prevents people from sharing the post.

I would prefer to post without an image. I tried the Facebook debugger and scraping for the URL I posted above but there is not a “no-image” option.

The thumbnail of my logo is picked up for the pages, which is what I want to happen for the posts.

    – hoping you can help.

    Hi cherrylB,

Sorry to hear this but I don’t quite follow.

    1) I haven’t really used Jetpack before. I installed it to test it myself, but I didn’t find the featured image setting. Can you send a screenshot of that setting(s)?

    2) Does that Jetpack feature help or does it not?

    3) I don’t see a featured image on your post, not does it appear on a category list like https://www.coremagazines.com/category/music/
I do see featured images where set manual like https://www.coremagazines.com/music/pipe-dreams/
I guess DFI is not set of the plugin is turned off right now?

Thank you for following up, janW.

The feature is called Featured Image. I misspoke; it’s available on the “2014” theme. You can select “Featured Image” from the bottom right corner below “Tags” and “Categories”. It works well, although it’s quite large.

Yes, I deactivated DFI. I may revisit it when I look at setting Category images.

The issue I’m trying to solve right now is with posts without images. When the post is shared, an image is assigned randomly. I don’t always want to include an image but if I don’t, one is automatically pick one up when it’s shared.

    Hi CherrylB,

The box you are referring to is a normal WordPress function which most theme’s use.
My plugin is designed to set a fallback image if none is specified.

This plugin does nothing with FB / social sharing specifically.

What you want is part of Yoast which you have installed.
Below every post/page should be the “Yoast SEO” box it has a tab “social”.
There you can fill out specific FB title and image.
Also in the general Yoast settings are some social/FB settings take a look there.

I don’t use facebook but as far as I know FB will always try to find an image.
So it’s better to set one.

    Hope this helps.
